Steve Ross and Jeffrey Soffer’s plans for a Westin hotel at Miami International Airport are no longer cleared for takeoff. The billionaire developers are backing out of the 451-room project after the Federal Aviation Administration rejected their plan for a 150-foot building over concerns that it would create a radar blind spot, Miami-Dade Aviation Director Ralph Cutie told county commissioners this week. An effort to redesign the hotel failed to produce a project the developers considered economically viable, Cutie said.
