Waste Management pays $379M for landfill site as Miami-Dade’s own facility search stalls

Waste Management dropped $379.4 million for a large tract in Medley that it plans to use as a landfill site.  The purchase comes as Miami-Dade County has been searching for its own trash facility after its incinerator was destroyed in a 2023 fire, a search that’s turned into a quagmire due to the cost and political battles.  Houston-based Waste Management bought an assemblage spanning 146.2 acres on the southwest corner of Northwest 106th Street and Northwest 95th Avenue from an entity managed by Lowell Dunn II and Loretta Dunn, according to records and real estate database Vizzda.
