How Florida’s proposed property tax amendment could affect real estate

Should voters approve it come November, the proposed property tax amendment in Florida could permanently reshape the state’s real estate market, affecting property values and investment.  It could have the opposite effect of its intent, which was to put more money back into homeowners’ pockets, and it could worsen the affordability crisis, especially in South Florida, according to elected officials, attorneys and industry experts.  Amendment 3, on the ballot Nov. 3, would raise the $50,000 homestead exemption on primary residences to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028.
